The Dahill Group is thrilled to be assisting our client, a well-established and highly regarded Texas based E&P company in search of an exceptional Engineering Data Analyst with oil & gas experience. This position sits in the company’s corporate office in Longview, Texas.
Position Summary
The Engineering Data Analyst is the reservoir engineering team's primary execution and data architecture role. The Analyst owns the analytical work products that support the Director's technical decisions and designs and maintains the data architecture that makes the function's analyses defensible. This includes the systems, standards, and quality controls that connect production data, reserves data, economic assumptions, and third-party datasets into an integrated foundation for reservoir engineering work.
The role requires domain instinct: reservoir engineering concepts must be familiar enough that the Analyst can recognize when a number does not make sense and trace it back. It also requires data systems design experience, not just data analysis skills. The strongest candidates have designed or significantly contributed to systems that integrate multiple sources into something usable and defensible.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture and Systems Design
• Design and maintain the reservoir engineering function's data architecture: how databases connect, the master source for each field, how new data flows in, and how corrections propagate from sources outside the company's control.
• Establish standards for the integrity and consistency of historical and new data across production, reserves, economics, and third-party sources.
• Build and maintain automated quality checks and visualization tools that surface data issues before they affect downstream analysis.
• Coordinate with the GIS & Process Integration Coordinator, IT, and the broader business on shared data infrastructure and integration points.
Surveillance Analytics and Reporting Infrastructure
• Own and maintain dashboards and reporting infrastructure for the reservoir engineering function.
• Support surveillance work with data systems, quality control tools, and designed visualizations.
• Contribute to routine surveillance interpretation, flowback monitoring, base decline tracking, and performance analysis.
A&D and Development Planning Support
• Support A&D evaluations with inventory analysis, mapping, document preparation, and data room work.
• Support development planning with data preparation, scenario execution, and analytical follow-up.
• Maintain the Lease Retention ComboCurve database based on the well list prepared by Land and Geology.
• Prepare quarterly economics on the active Lease Retention scenario, including production forecasts, expense analysis, and revenue-stream analysis (price differentials and plant products if any).
• Maintain activity dashboards in Spotfire combining public data and proprietary data.
Forecasting Databases and Well Economics
• Maintain the owned asset, Workfile, database.
• Maintain the Haynesville basin ComboCurve database.
• Maintain the horizontal Cotton Valley basin ComboCurve database.
• Prepare sensitivities and scenarios for production performance, reservoir performance, development planning, and AFE economics using methodology set by the Director.
• Execute single-well and pad-level AFE economics under Director review.
• Support screening on inventory, refrac candidates, and non-drill opportunities.
Reserves and Budget Support
• Contribute to annual reserves submission and year-over-year reconciliation.
• Manage third-party communications for reserves work under the Director's direction.
• Maintain forecast components (production, expense, capital, revenue streams) for budget cycles and Latest Estimate updates.
Lookback and Continuous Improvement
• Contribute to lookback analyses with data assembly and comparison work.
• Identify opportunities to improve analytical workflows, data quality, and reporting infrastructure.
• Participate in structured deep-dives with the Director to build reservoir engineering fluency over time.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline: engineering, mathematics, science, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas, ideally in reservoir engineering, production analytics, or technical data roles.
• Demonstrated data architecture or systems design experience. Strong candidates have designed or significantly contributed to data systems that integrate multiple sources.
• Working understanding of reservoir engineering concepts; able to recognize when analytical outputs do not pass basic reasonableness checks and trace them back.
• Required tool proficiency: strong Excel; working SQL; Spotfire or Power BI; ComboCurve or equivalent forecasting platform.
• Strong analytical judgment, follow-through, and attention to detail; committed to keeping datasets consistent and defensible.
• Comfortable working to a defined standard and iterating with direction from the Director.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with ComboCurve and Whitson+.
• Experience in Haynesville or other unconventional shale plays.
• Experience integrating data from multiple sources: internal production systems, public data, partner submissions, third-party analyses, purchased datasets.
• Experience designing dashboards or data visualization systems beyond routine reporting.
• Petroleum engineering coursework or degree or demonstrated equivalent domain understanding through work experience.
About the Team
The Engineering Analyst joins a four-role reservoir engineering team: the Director / Senior Engineer, the Engineering Analyst, the GIS & Process Integration Coordinator, and Reserves Tech. The team is intentionally shaped to deliver technical depth without stacking engineers, with the Analyst as the central execution role and the data architecture anchor for the function.
