Job Title: Director of Claims & Business Development
Location: Remote (US) with travel to industry events, trade shows and client meetings
Type: Full-time, exempt · Target start: early January 2027 (flexible)
About the Company:
Our client is a growing furnished-housing company that places families displaced by insurance losses (ALE / loss-of-use) into fully furnished, mid-term homes. They operate roughly 50 units nationally on insurance placements and manage a portfolio of furnished properties in Northern California. Stays run a 30-day minimum and typically last 3 to 6 months. The company owns and grows exclusive, off-market inventory and is planning to expand from two to three claims pods in 2027, with a possible hotel-services division ahead.
Why This Role Exists:
This Director is the first and most important hire in the company's growth plan. You will own where claims come from: building direct adjuster and carrier relationships and holding the claims team accountable to clear KPIs. You report directly to the President and Owner and have real decision rights.
What You'll Do:
- Lead business development: build and grow relationships with insurance adjusters, carriers and TPAs, and negotiate carrier contracts
- Represent the company at industry events (e.g., PLRB, trade shows) and run a steady relationship touch cadence
- Steer requests toward best-fit claims: 3+ month stays, budgets matching inventory, locations near available homes
- Lead the claims team (Property Coordinators and Leasing Specialists; 4 today, 6 by Q3 2027) through weekly and monthly KPI reviews and accountability, not day-to-day claims work
- Serve as the escalation point for client, landlord and policyholder disputes and turn each escalation into a lasting fix
- Report on placements, pipeline, account scorecards and team performance
What Success Looks Like:
- Day 90: 8+ placements a month sourced through your own relationships
- 12 months: 35 to 45 team placements a month, 40%+ through your relationships, average stay 3.5+ months, response time under 3 hours 95% of the time
What You Bring:
- 10+ years in insurance housing: an ALE relocation company, a TPA, or a carrier's housing or claims team
- Established relationships with insurance adjusters; carrier-contract negotiation experience is ideal
- 3+ years managing a placement, relocation or claims team
- Deep knowledge of ALE and loss-of-use coverage, Fair Rental Value, extensions and catastrophe response
- A true hunter: energetic, resilient, intrapreneurial and comfortable hearing no
- Track record of resolving disputes while keeping the relationship
Nice to Have:
- Hotel-services experience
-
Furnished or corporate housing operations
- California / wildfire market knowledge
- Monday.com or OpenPhone
-
Bilingual English/Spanish.
