Summary
The Controller is responsible for leading financial operations for the entirety of our cannabis portfolio, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. The Controller will work closely with operations to support business performance and drive financial accountability.
Responsibilities
- Financial Management
- Lead and manage financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
- Oversee month end and year end closing processes, including account reconciliations and accruals
- Oversee and support the accounts payable and accounts receivable process
- Develop and maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulations
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS and ASPE
- Experience with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting, including review and preparation of financial results and supporting data and analysis
- Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain proper records
- Experience in cost accounting and inventory management is an asset, overseeing and managing the inventory accounting process, including inventory valuation, cost analysis and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Review and maintain cost accounting procedures to track and allocate costs, analyze variances and support pricing decisions and margin analysis
- Collaborate with operations and AMI’s parent company to support business performance, finance initiatives and effective reporting
- Responsible for tax filings and financial audits, including HST/GST remittances, Excise Duty calculations and remittances and monthly remittances of CTLS.
- Technical Expertise
- Utilize and maintain Sage 50 (Simply Accounting) software.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
Experience / Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- CPA designation required
- 5+ years in accounting management positions.
- Knowledge of GAAP and cannabis-specific financial regulations preferred
- Experience in cost accounting and inventory management is an asset.
- Strong financial, analytical, and business acumen skills.
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a highly regulated and evolving environment.
- High level of discretion in handling confidential information.
- Successful candidates must pass a criminal record and background check
- English proficiency required
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work location
- Ability and willingness to work in environments that could include exposure to bright lights, chemicals, fumes, and odours.
