Throne is a high-growth startup on a mission to meaningfully expand access to clean and delightful bathrooms—and they’re growing fast. With flagship customers like the District of Columbia, Caltrain, and LA Metro, they’re on track to 4x ARR this year, with plans to expand to double the number of operational markets next year on the back of a new Series B funding round. 


Why This Role is Exciting

  • Pivotal leadership role: As Director of Markets, you’ll oversee Throne’s local market operations and the people who make them run—directly managing and coaching our network of Operations Managers and shaping how we launch and scale new cities.
  • Scale what matters: You’ll be responsible for the KPIs that define operational excellence—cleanliness, uptime, customer satisfaction, retention, and market-level profitability—while keeping our Ops Managers engaged, growing, and happy.
  • Growth and mobility: You’ll be at the forefront of Throne’s market expansions, partnering cross-functionally with Product, Finance, and Operations to launch new markets and hire the right local leaders.
  • Hands-on leadership: This role is perfect for a seasoned operator who thrives on building high-performing distributed teams, rolling up their sleeves to solve problems on the ground, and traveling to where the work is happening.


Responsibilities

As Director of Markets, you will lead the leaders of all of Throne's operational markets, and install the leaders of new markets, ultimately responsible for the company's operational performance. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Team Leadership & Performance Management: Manage and coach a team of Operations Managers, focusing on engagement, retention, and career growth for front-line leaders and their teams.
  • Market-Level KPIs: Drive operational performance across CSAT, cleanliness scores, uptime, customer retention, local operating profit, and workforce engagement.
  • New Market Launches: Partner with cross-functional leaders to launch new cities—including staffing, onboarding, and building repeatable playbooks for scale.
  • Project Management: Partner with your Operations Managers to design and implement scalable processes and tools that elevate performance across markets—serving as the driving force behind company wide operational initiatives.
  • Travel & Market Presence: Commit to regular market visits—at least two 4-day trips per month—to build relationships, understand on-the-ground challenges, and lead by example.
  • P&L Awareness: Understand and manage the cost side of local P&Ls, using data-driven insights to improve market profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Culture & Employee Lifecycle: Foster a culture of accountability, equity, and high performance while supporting employee lifecycle milestones—hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and career development for blue-collar and managerial staff.


Is This You?

  • 7+ years of experience in operations, market management, or multi-site leadership roles
  • Demonstrated success managing distributed teams in service-oriented, logistics, or facilities focused businesses
  • Strong experience managing managers and front-line (hourly or field) workers
  • Deep understanding of performance management and project management.
  • Experience with California labor regulations and best practices in employee relations
  • High EQ leader who excels at motivating diverse teams and driving results in ambiguous, fast-changing environments
  • Comfortable with heavy travel and working across time zones
  • Thrives in high-growth startup environments, able to balance strategic priorities with hands-on execution
