Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Reports To: Director of Finance

Position Summary
The Accounting Clerk supports the financial operations of a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing and managing public park spaces in partnership with the city. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing daily accounting transactions, and assisting the Director of Finance with financial reporting and compliance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to supporting the mission of maintaining vibrant and accessible public spaces for the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in the organization’s accounting system.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Record daily financial activity including deposits, invoices, expense reports, and journal entries.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
- Assist in maintaining the general ledger and supporting documentation.
- Oversight of payroll, 401k and workers compensation.
Financial Administration
- Support the Director of Finance with preparation of monthly financial reports and documentation.
- Assist with tracking expenses related to park operations, maintenance, events, and programming.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical financial files and records.
- Process and track vendor payments and maintain vendor records.
- Assist with grant and restricted fund tracking as needed.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Assist with preparation of documentation for audits, grant reporting, and financial reviews.
- Support the Director of Finance in maintaining internal controls and financial procedures.
Operational Support
- Coordinate with staff across departments to ensure proper coding and documentation of expenses.
- Provide administrative support related to budgeting, purchasing, and financial tracking for park operations and projects.
- Onboard new hires and process terminations
- Maintain personnel files
- Assist with special financial projects or reports as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting support experience, preferably in a nonprofit or government-related environment.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle financial information with discretion.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and external partners.
