IPS is recruiting for a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the controls architecture, automation, and software development for our client's customized wastewater treatment systems. This position will provide technical leadership from concept and detailed design through manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, installation, and commissioning. The Senior Controls Engineer will work closely with the software, project, mechanical, process, and manufacturing engineering teams to develop safe, reliable, and intuitive automated systems. 


Responsibilities:


  • Lead the development and implementation of the controls architecture for customized wastewater treatment systems, including PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, control panels, safety systems, and industrial communications.
  • Develop control philosophies, functional descriptions, sequence of operations, control narratives, and system architecture documentation for customer projects.
  • Based on customer input, provide requirements to internal software developers who maintain our unified controller and HMI codebases.
  • Support SCADA and customer control-system interfaces, including definition and implementation of required signals and communications.
  • Review electrical/control panel designs and supplier documentation to ensure compliance with controls requirements.
  • Support development of electrical schematics, I/O documentation, network architecture, instrument lists, and controls bills of materials.
  • Lead controls testing during factory acceptance testing (FAT) and support troubleshooting during site acceptance testing (SAT).
  • Travel periodically to customer sites, including international locations, to support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer technical meetings.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience designing and programming industrial automation and control systems, preferably involving process equipment, water/wastewater treatment, chemical processing, or other industrial equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing complete controls architectures for complex industrial equipment or systems.
  • Experience with major industrial automation platforms like Siemens and Allen-Bradley. B&R experience is a plus.
  • Experience developing control narratives, sequences of operation, interlocks, alarms, and operator interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking and communications such as Modbus, OPC UA, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, etc.
  • Experience integrating PLCs with SCADA systems and customer control systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to customer and installation sites, including international travel.
