About the Role

HPM is seeking a detail-oriented Project Controls Specialist to support the planning and execution of large, complex construction projects. This individual will help project teams manage costs, schedules, contracts, forecasts, risks, and reporting while providing clients and project leaders with clear, accurate information.

The ideal candidate combines strong construction knowledge with excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. This position may require up to 10% travel.

What You’ll Do

• Monitor project budgets, costs, schedules, forecasts, cash flow, and earned value.
• Prepare weekly, monthly, and special project reports for clients and project teams.
• Clearly communicate financial status, schedule performance, risks, and project updates.
• Review project schedules to identify critical-path activities, delays, and potential risks.
• Maintain accurate cost and schedule baselines and incorporate approved changes.
• Support the project change-control process, including claims and variance analysis.
• Review contracts, invoices, commitments, expenditures, and vendor payments.
• Conduct accrual analysis and prepare expenditure projections and funding requests.
• Perform cost, schedule, and contract risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Develop budgets and schedules and assist with funding profiles and variance analysis.
• Maintain historical cost databases, including budgets, commitments, invoices, work in place, and forecasts.
• Support project closeout by reconciling final cost and schedule performance against established baselines.
• Partner with project teams to improve and standardize project-controls processes, tools, and best practices.
• Present findings and recommendations clearly to clients, project managers, and other stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Building Science, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Five to ten years of project-controls, cost-controls, or extensive project-management experience.
• Experience supporting large, complex construction projects, including new construction and renovations.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, cost management, change management, forecasting, and project reporting.
• Experience with CPM scheduling and Primavera P6.
• Understanding of construction estimating from conceptual through definitive estimates.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, and Access.
• Excellent analytical, presentation, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with project teams, contractors, clients, and senior leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working for a consulting firm or owner organization.
• On-site experience managing new construction or renovation projects.
• Experience establishing or improving a formal project-controls function.
• Knowledge of commercial operations and the financial considerations associated with complex construction projects.
