Controller + Take Initiative + Omaha

As one of the Midwest’s most established and respected names in construction branches into a new chapter, they’re looking for a Controller to help guide the transition and build the next phase of success. This is your opportunity to join a legacy-rich, family-run company as they launch a dedicated civil division focused on infrastructure projects like roads and bridges for government and municipal clients. If you thrive in environments that blend tradition with transformation and want to be the go-to person for accounting and operations, this could be your moment.

What You’ll Do:

As the operational backbone of this newly independent civil construction group, you’ll bring financial clarity, compliance, and leadership to a team that values both independence and accessibility. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading month-end close and reconciliation processes
  • Supporting project accounting, AP, payroll, and subcontractor documentation
  • Managing payroll tax filings, unemployment tax, and workers’ comp claims
  • Overseeing insurance administration, claims, renewals, and risk management
  • Serving as the point person for retirement plan coordination and compliance
  • Working with external accountants on tax filings, audits, and financial oversight
  • Importing project estimates and cost commitments from project management tools into the accounting system

Tools You'll Use:

  • Sage Timberline for accounting and reporting
  • HeavyJob for job estimates and project inputs

What Sets This Role Apart:

  • Stability + Change: Help build something new with the security of a company that’s been around for over a century
  • Team Culture: Supportive, flexible work environment with a “family first” mindset
  • Autonomy: Be trusted to lead and make decisions with minimal direction
  • Balance: A 40-45 hour workweek, steady workload, and realistic expectations

What They’re Looking For:

  • A hands-on, proactive leader who brings calm and clarity
  • Someone who can navigate both the job site and the boardroom—professional yet approachable
  • Strong background in construction accounting, especially job cost accounting
  • Experience using Sage Timberline (or similar ERP systems)
  • Tenure in previous roles; we value longevity and commitment
  • Start-up mentality with the drive to build processes and improve operations from the ground up

If you’re ready to bring your financial and operational expertise to a company with deep roots and a bold new path ahead, we’d love to hear from you.
