Description

We are seeking a mechanically inclined and dependable Automotive Mechanic to join a busy rental yard and maintenance team in Los Angeles. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career mechanic or recent technical school graduate who wants to continue developing their skills through hands-on training and mentorship from experienced technicians.

The company has been family-owned for more than 100 years and has operated from the same location for over 50 years. The team places a strong emphasis on employee development, stability, and providing mechanics with opportunities to expand their technical abilities over time.

This position will focus primarily on preventive maintenance and general automotive, truck, and trailer service. UTI and other automotive or diesel technical school graduates are encouraged to apply. Prior shop experience is helpful, but the company is willing to train candidates who demonstrate mechanical aptitude, reliability, and a desire to build a long-term career in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on trucks, trailers, and related equipment
• Complete lube, oil, and filter services according to maintenance schedules
• Inspect and replace batteries and other basic vehicle components
• Inspect trucks and trailers for mechanical issues, wear, and maintenance needs
• Assist with general automotive and truck chassis repairs
• Identify basic automotive, diesel engine, truck chassis, and equipment parts
• Use parts manuals, manufacturer information, and factory bulletins to identify required components
• Assist with sourcing and ordering specialized truck and equipment parts
• Work with Ford, International/IHC, and other truck components and systems
• Communicate parts requirements based on inspections, mechanic feedback, and repair needs
• Develop troubleshooting and diagnostic skills through hands-on training and mentorship
• Use hand tools and shop equipment safely to complete maintenance and repair assignments
• Work independently or alongside experienced mechanics depending on the repair
• Shift between assignments as shop priorities and equipment needs change
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow all company safety procedures and established maintenance practices
• Assist with additional shop and rental yard responsibilities as needed

Qualifications & Skills

• Mechanical aptitude and interest in automotive, diesel, truck, or equipment repair
• Ability to perform or learn routine lube, oil, filter, and preventive maintenance services
• Comfortable using mechanic hand tools and basic shop equipment
• Ability to inspect equipment and recognize potential maintenance or repair needs
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn troubleshooting procedures
• Ability to follow instructions, service information, and established repair procedures
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing quality work
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision as skills develop
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and adjust to changing shop priorities
• Spanish-speaking ability is a plus

Preferred Backgrounds

• Recent UTI or other automotive/diesel technical school graduate
• Automotive repair or maintenance experience
• Diesel or truck maintenance experience
• Rental fleet or commercial vehicle maintenance
• General automotive shop experience
• Truck chassis or trailer maintenance
• Preventive maintenance technician or lube technician experience
• Mechanically inclined candidates looking to advance into higher-level repair work

Tools & Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must have reliable personal transportation
• Candidate should have their own mechanic tools and portable tool cart
• Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, mechanics, parts suppliers, and other team members
• Must be career-oriented and interested in continued technical development
• Reliable and predictable attendance is required

• Busy automotive and commercial truck rental yard
• Hands-on mechanical shop environment
• Regular interaction with trucks, trailers, tools, parts, and maintenance equipment
• Combination of preventive maintenance, inspections, general repairs, and troubleshooting

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, and work around vehicles for extended periods
• Ability to safely use mechanic tools and shop equipment
• Ability to perform physically active automotive and truck maintenance work
• Comfortable working around trucks, trailers, engines, and mechanical equipment
• Ability to perform repetitive maintenance and repair tasks throughout the workday
