Electrical Engineer
Location: Portland, OR (On-Site, Full-Time)
Pay Range: $100,000 – $125,000
Job Summary
We are seeking a Electrical Engineer to take a leadership role in designing and integrating industrial electrical control systems. This role will involve developing advanced power and control solutions, guiding projects from concept through production release, and serving as a technical mentor for less experienced engineers. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and has the ability to balance hands-on engineering with leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of industrial electrical control systems including PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and related power/control components.
- Define and execute project scope from preliminary concepts, sketches, or specifications.
- Create detailed electrical schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and validation documentation.
- Manage multi-stage design release processes including submittals, prototypes, and production.
- Provide customer-facing project management support, ensuring technical solutions align with performance, cost, and schedule expectations.
- Lead product design activities for key programs while contributing to product design initiatives.
- Serve as a mentor and coach to engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional growth.
- Act as a departmental ambassador, driving engineering best practices and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical expertise for modifications, retrofits, and complex system integrations.
- Support production, commissioning, and field troubleshooting as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical system design, integration, and controls engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of industrial 3-phase systems, UL508A, NEMA, and CSA standards.
- Strong background in electrical panel design, fabrication, and wiring installation practices.
- Familiarity with PLC programming, VFDs, and industrial communication protocols.
- Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent projects, including R&D initiatives.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with a strong customer focus.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency with schematic design and CAD tools
- Expertise in electrical controls including 4–20mA signals, 480VAC power, 120VAC control, and 24VDC control.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities in both mechanical and electrical system integration.
- Comfortable managing projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and guiding cross-functional teams.
