This role requires a strong maintenance leadership background, with oversight of plant maintenance and utilities. Experience with ammonia systems, boilers, compressors, and process towers is essential.
Plan, organize and direct maintenance personnel & programs in all phases of the operation to assure the facility operates in a highly efficient manner. A highly efficient manner is one in which utilization rates are constantly being monitored and maintained at as high of a level as possible (100% being the goal). Assure that the plant equipment is maintained in a proactive manner.

Direct and Indirect Reports: The role will have one direct report—a Senior Maintenance Manager—and approximately 30 indirect reports.

The facility is entering a structured Continuous Improvement culture. This individual would be a part of these initiatives as they are rolled out.
Experience in: Dairy, Beverage, or Liquid Co-packing is ideal
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitoring the performance of equipment such as boilers, cooling towers, refrigeration systems (Ammonia and Freon), water systems and HVAC units in order to detect signs of malfunction or degradation.
- Conduct cost savings and payback studies to assist in recommended changes.
- Monitoring and maintaining water quality, pH levels, and other chemical properties to ensure that they meet standards set by State, and Federal agencies.
- Performing preventative maintenance on machinery to reduce repair costs and improve efficiency.
- Manage Effluent Discharge to ensure compliance and ensure regulatory documentation is completed as needed.
- Works with department heads to ensure the Plant runs at a high level of efficiency.
- Maintains documentation of Capital Projects and related equipment.
- Ensures contractors adhere to GMP and Housekeeping procedures/policy.
- Works with contracted agencies to ensure contracted work is within performance standards.
- Conducting research on new technology for more efficient and cost-effective ways of operating manufacturing processes
- Analyzing data to determine the need for repairs or maintenance to machinery or equipment.
- Monitoring the progress of capital projects to ensure that they are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Performing routine maintenance on equipment to ensure its proper functioning.
- Coordinating with plant personnel to ensure that all systems are running smoothly.

- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the departments. Be proactive in identifying needs and promote the TEAM approach to fulfilling these needs.

- Support our maintenance team in continuous improvement activities.
- Schedule down day tasks and resources.
- Carry a cell phone 24/7 to support the plant during off hours.
- Maintains plant records and drawings related to the infrastructure and design.
- Engineering disciplines that can be useful include thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, thermochemistry, process control and systems engineering.

Technical skills: Plant engineers use technical skills to read and interpret technical manuals, design and implement new processes and procedures and troubleshoot and repair machinery. Technical skills are essential to the job and can be improved through continuing education, training and experience.

Communication skills: Plant engineer communicates with a variety of people, including other engineers, managers, suppliers and contractors. They also communicate with the public, explaining technical information to non-engineers. Effective communication skills can help you build trust, develop relationships and solve problems.

Problem-solving skills: Successful candidates will use their problem-solving skills to identify and address issues that affect the efficiency of a plant. Will also use their problem-solving skills to identify the cause of a malfunction and develop a solution to repair or replace the malfunctioning equipment. Also use their problem-solving skills to identify and address issues that affect the safety of the plant’s employees and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 3 to 5+ years combined experience in plant processes including demonstrated knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical, building maintenance, wastewater treatment, refrigeration, boiler operation and maintenance and refrigeration.
- Ability to read schematics and piping diagrams | PC literate | Auto-Cad experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills | Ability to read schematics and piping diagrams.
- Extended Shelf-Life experience preferred | Working with Conveyors.
