Tooling Design Engineer

Stoughton, Wisconsin - Full Time


Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at our customer's facility in Stoughton, Wisconsin. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be a highly skilled Tooling Design Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of tooling and weld fixtures for welded assemblies in our manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience in tooling design, particularly for welding and assembly processes. This role will work closely with both the engineering and production teams to design and improve fixtures and tooling to ensure product quality, operational efficiency, and ease of manufacturability.

Duties:

  • Design and develop weld fixtures, jigs, and tooling for welded assemblies, ensuring that they meet manufacturing specifications, quality standards, and production timelines.
  • Work closely with welding engineers, manufacturing teams, and production operators to ensure tooling designs meet functional requirements and contribute to efficient assembly and welding processes.
  • Evaluate and improve existing tooling and fixture designs, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, process efficiency, and quality enhancement in welded assemblies.
  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) to create detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and schematics of fixtures, jigs, and tooling. Ensure designs are accurate, manufacturable, and compliant with industry standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues with existing tooling and fixtures on the production floor, providing technical support to address challenges that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Develop prototypes for new tooling and fixtures, conduct testing and validation to ensure their performance and suitability for the intended applications.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to develop and implement continuous improvements in tooling design, automation, and welding processes to improve productivity, reduce cycle times, and increase product consistency.
  • Maintain detailed records of tooling designs, modifications, and maintenance activities.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred or equivalent work experience in tooling design or manufacturing engineering will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tooling design for welded assemblies, including weld fixtures, jigs, and production tooling.
  • Experience with welding and assembly processes.
