Refrigeration Systems Engineer

Direct Hire Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our customer’s team at their facility in Springfield, Illinois. This position is responsible for the design, development, and support of refrigeration systems in beverage equipment including new products and maintenance of current production items. This includes leading a cross-functional team and accountability for the planning, overall design, development, project management, quality, budget, and timeline for projects.

Duties:
- Manage and lead numerous key projects for refrigerated systems and products, including development and implementation.
- Direct the creation, implementation, and full qualification of refrigeration system designs.
- Establish the refrigeration load and specify the appropriate refrigeration components for complex refrigeration system designs.
- Determine the means for controlling refrigerant flow and size the appropriate component(s) for a given system design.
- Optimize the refrigerant charge amount in system design.
- Follow best practices to implement design that meets requirements for quality, cost, performance, manufacturability, and serviceability.
- Problem-solve and brainstorm creative design solutions to technical challenges on new and existing products.
- Develop and manage project plan to achieve objectives for system design, unit cost, timeline, budget, resource needs, and risk management. Leads team to successfully execute day to day, task level activities.
- Responsible for technical design, design integrity, and product reliability to deliver against requirements.
- Support existing products through continuous improvement, quality issue resolution and value improvement.
- Facilitate cross-functional team meetings, track and report on project status and deliverables.
- Work with engineering team on specifications, prototype assembly, testing, and design reviews.
- Interact with other teams, management, and the extended enterprise to set priorities, work through barriers and present compromises and tradeoffs to ensure project success.
- Promote effective cross-functional teamwork by collaborating with other roles such as manufacturing, purchasing, quality, service, agency, documentation, software, hardware, product management, marketing, and technical publications.
- Keep current on latest advancements in technology, design trends and engineering best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and/or fluid dynamics from ABET accredited program.
- 5+ years of commercial or residential refrigerated system design experience.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing numerous commercial or residential refrigerated products.
- Thorough working knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
- In-depth understanding of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) codes and regulations, and safety (UL) and sanitation (NSF) requirements for commercial refrigerated equipment.
- 3-5 years of experience applying project management skills for leading, planning, driving, and tracking project and team activities, including timelines, budgets, and risk management.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus.
- Understanding of manufacturing environment, particularly a working knowledge of appropriate refrigeration standards and practices.
- Ability to interact well with others and collaborate well in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated, driven personality.
- Perform under pressure and be comfortable with change and complexity in dynamic environments.
- Strong oral/written communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Project Management software.
