Test Engineer

Stoughton, WI – Full Time

 

Productive Resources (www.productiveresources.com) is seeking a candidate to be part of our engineering team at our customer's facility in Stoughton, WI. As a member of our team, the selected candidate will be a Test Engineer who will provide engineering support for validation and development of aftertreatment assemblies and components. This role is responsible for test planning, setup, execution, and data analysis to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of test results that support product development and system validation. This position is hands on in a test cell and also highly collaborative, requiring coordination with functional and program teams, test technicians, and lab leadership to meet laboratory KPIs for safety, data quality, and productivity.

Duties:

  • Develop clear, complete, and robust test plans prior to test initiation.
  • Support test planning and alignment sessions; take detailed notes, incorporate feedback, and communicate capability or resource constraints.
  • Prepare and configure test assets, instrumentation, and equipment using standard processes and tools.
  • Ensure readiness of parts, fixtures, and instrumentation for testing, including pre-staging while awaiting cell availability.
  • Install and verify parts on assigned test stands and cells at the Stoughton facility.
  • Ensure all sensors and data acquisition systems are properly configured and calibrated before testing.
  • Execute tests using Cyflex and related control systems, following lean and safe test execution methods.
  • Maintain real-time documentation of test progress and next steps to guide technician activities.
  • Troubleshoot test system or equipment issues as needed to maintain schedule adherence.
  • Conduct safety risk assessments (fuel, electrical, kinetic hazards), define safeguards, and ensure compliance with lab safety protocols.
  • Perform daily data analysis to confirm testing validity and detect anomalies.
  • Document test setups, results, and conclusions with supporting photos and data summaries.
  • Prepare and present organized reports including setup summaries, observations, and performance conclusions to program teams.
  • Support additional data requests or re-analysis as needed by the VPI program team.
  • Conduct weekly data quality checks and participate in Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) activities.
  • Support calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance of test equipment.
  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., 7-Step, FMEA) to resolve test issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory to enhance test efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Use Siemens Test Lab, Matlab, Minitab, Windchill, FIRG, RV&S, iDFMEA, and Cyflex (training provided).


Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field OR equivalent hands-on technical experience in a test engineering or lab environment.
  • 2–8 years of experience in test execution, instrumentation, or validation for mechanical or emissions systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform structured data analysis and interpret test results.
  • Proficient with data acquisition and test management systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
