Senior Plumbing Designer:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing Designer to join our growing engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design of plumbing and process utility systems for complex healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, life science, higher education, and advanced manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate is a technically strong plumbing designer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, mentoring team members, and collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
In this role, you will lead plumbing design efforts from concept through construction, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and layout of plumbing systems for commercial, healthcare, laboratory, life science, industrial, and higher education facilities.
- Design domestic water, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, natural gas, medical gas, laboratory gas, compressed air, RO/DI water, specialty waste, and other plumbing utility systems.
- Perform plumbing calculations, equipment sizing, pipe sizing, pressure loss analysis, and system design.
- Prepare plumbing plans, specifications, riser diagrams, schedules, and construction documents.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, civil, and specialty engineering disciplines.
- Participate in project planning, client meetings, design reviews, and coordination meetings.
- Conduct field investigations and verify existing building conditions.
- Perform quality control reviews to ensure design accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
- Support construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and completing punch list reviews.
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical leadership to project teams.
- Manage multiple projects while maintaining quality, budgets, and schedules.
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of plumbing design experience in a consulting engineering environment.
- Extensive experience designing plumbing systems for commercial, healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, life science, or industrial facilities.
- Strong knowledge of the International Plumbing Code (IPC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), building codes, and applicable industry standards.
- Proficiency with Revit and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience performing plumbing calculations, equipment selection, and construction document preparation.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) through ASPE.
- Experience with medical gas system design and healthcare facility codes.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Familiarity with advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and life science facility design
