Civil Engineer

Sites succeed when the ground, water, and public realm are designed with the same care as the building. In this role you will shape civil strategies that let complex places perform—safe access, resilient drainage, and landscapes that people actually use. You will sit with architects, engineers, and clients from the first site questions through construction, turning constraints into clear, buildable decisions.

Performance Objectives

  • Define site strategies that meet program, code, and constructability targets for healthcare, education, civic, workplace, and cultural projects.
  • Produce grading, utility, stormwater, and access designs that clear review without late rework and stay within agreed scope and fee.
  • Lead interdisciplinary coordination so civil decisions lock with architecture, structure, MEP, and landscape before documents go out.
  • Present options and risks to owners in plain language, and secure timely decisions that protect schedule and budget.
  • Deliver permit-ready packages aligned with local standards, accessibility, and resilience goals, including flood and climate exposure.
  • Guide junior staff and consultants so models, drawings, and specifications are accurate, coordinated, and ready for construction.
  • Resolve field issues during construction so changes stay documented, cost-aware, and faithful to design intent.

Environment & Resources

You will work on integrated architecture and engineering teams across multiple markets and scales, reporting to a civil or project engineering lead. Expect Revit and Civil 3D as daily tools, shared BIM standards, and access to sustainability, commissioning, and design-research colleagues. Project budgets and staffing are set with the project manager; you will own the civil work plan inside that frame. Studio collaboration is the norm, with flexibility and time together in the office each week.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field; PE required or on a defined path to licensure.
  • Several years designing site, grading, utilities, and stormwater for building projects in a consulting or A/E setting.
  • Working command of Civil 3D and Revit, plus the ability to coordinate models with architectural and engineering teams.
  • Practical knowledge of applicable stormwater, accessibility, and local permitting requirements, and the judgment to apply them early.
  • Clear writing and presentation skills with owners, reviewers, and interdisciplinary teammates.
  • A record of finishing coordinated documents on schedule while coaching others and managing multiple deadlines.

Why This Role

  • Civil work is central to places that serve people—not an afterthought bolted on at the end.
  • You will practice across healthcare, education, culture, community, and workplace projects, not a single building type.
  • Resilience, decarbonization, and site performance are part of the design conversation, not a separate checklist.
  • You will grow through open critique, shared standards, and colleagues who expect your judgment at the table.

If you want your civil work to shape how people arrive, move, and stay—submit your resume. We review every application and will be in touch if there is a strong match.
