Job Description: Senior Interior Designer
Reports To: Senior Project Manager
Job Overview
The function of this position is to manage the execution and coordination of project interior design in collaboration with the design team. It also involves developing and presenting creative, solution-based plans for various clients, ensuring budget, schedule, and client expectations are met from project inception to owner occupancy, and endeavoring to deliver excellence on all projects. The role also includes collaborating with and mentoring fellow design professionals.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Prepares proposals with Principals for interior design services
• Oversees and/or assists in the selection of interior finishes, furnishings, artwork, and interior signage
• Responsible for interior design aspects of an assigned project, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions.
• Contributes to project design with project manager, project architect, and/or principal-in-charge.
• Research and manage codes, guidelines, and standards for accurate incorporation into the design.
• Oversees and/or assists with furniture planning and furniture procurement.
• Leads presentations and communicates design concepts using appropriate software.
• Responsible for project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and presentation images.
• Coordinates and collaborates with consultants, team members, owner’s stakeholders, governing bodies, and trades.
• Meets with clients and attends planning and construction meetings as needed.
• Oversees assembly of material finish boards for presentations.
• Manage multiple projects at various phases, providing quality assurance for own work and quality control for interior projects.
• Maintenance of internal reporting systems, i.e. time sheets and project files.
• Meets with suppliers and vendors and assists with maintaining the sample library.
• Adhere to deadlines for key deliverables.
• Review shop drawings and submittals for approval.
Education & Skills
• Degree from an accredited Interior Design University
• 10+ years of professional experience with a minimum 6 years of direct project management
• NCIDQ, LEED AP ID+C certified preferred
• Experience with Revit, Masterspec, Adobe Design Suite, Microsoft Office
• Expertise in developing schematic design, preliminary budgets, and programming documents
• Experience facilitating and presenting at public meetings and forums
• Write reports, business correspondence, contracts, and business development communication
• Expert in all aspects and phases of the interior design process
• Understanding of and ability to respond to the technical implications of design decisions
• Excellent communication skills to facilitate meetings with the client and project staff
• Ability to manage construction administration
• Thorough knowledge of code requirements
