JOB DESCRIPTION


We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead structural design efforts across a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, hospitality, multifamily, and retail projects. This role is ideal for a technically strong structural engineer who can independently manage projects, mentor junior staff, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide practical, constructable solutions.

You will collaborate closely with clients, architects, contractors, vendors, and other design professionals throughout the project lifecycle. Projects may include office buildings, schools, multifamily residences, hotels, restaurants, banks, and retail spaces.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits and client meetings,


PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES


  • Lead structural design efforts from initial concept through construction administration.
  • Deliver practical, code-compliant, and constructable structural solutions.
  • Successfully coordinate structural systems with architectural, MEP, civil, and other disciplines.
  • Maintain high standards for technical accuracy, documentation, and project quality.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior structural staff.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, vendors, and project teams.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Independently lead structural design staff throughout the project design and construction phases.
  • Identify and solve structural problems while developing appropriate and constructable solutions.
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams to manage the development, design, and implementation of structural concepts, systems, drawings, and specifications.
  • Coordinate structural designs with external suppliers, internal design teams, manufacturers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform structural calculations for gravity, lateral, and foundation systems.
  • Develop and review structural drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure structural designs comply with applicable building codes, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Respond to contractor questions and requests for information during construction.
  • Participate in site visits and client meetings as needed.
  • Apply value engineering principles to develop efficient and cost-effective structural solutions.
  • Manage priorities across multiple projects while maintaining quality and deadlines.
  • Provide technical mentorship and support to junior structural engineers and designers.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams, contractors, and consultants.


REQUIREMENTS


  • 5+ years of post-graduation structural engineering experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Structural Engineering (SE) designation is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience designing building structural systems using wood, steel, concrete, and masonry.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes and structural engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of value engineering practices and constructability considerations.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Ability to strategically prioritize work and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam, Autodesk Revit, and industry-standard structural design software.
  • Experience with Enercalc, RISA, Simpson, and/or WoodWorks preferred.
