About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer with 10+ years of experience supporting civil and commercial development projects. The ideal candidate will hold an active Professional Engineering (PE) license or be able to obtain North Carolina PE licensure promptly. This role requires demonstrated competency in stamping and signing reports, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, and delivering technically sound solutions to clients, developers, and project partners.

This position may be remote, with preference for candidates local to the Wilmington, NC region who are open to hybrid work and periodic field/site engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute geotechnical engineering investigations for commercial and civil infrastructure projects
  • Perform foundation design, settlement analysis, slope stability, pavement design, retaining structures, and seismic evaluations
  • Oversee laboratory and field testing programs; interpret geotechnical data and prepare recommendations
  • Develop, review, stamp, and sign geotechnical reports and related project documentation
  • Collaborate with internal project managers, structural/civil teams, contractors, and external client groups
  • Support proposal development, scopes, and project planning efforts
  • Ensure QA/QC compliance, regulatory adherence, and project documentation standards
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineering staff (as applicable)

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in the U.S.
  • Ability to obtain NC PE within a short timeframe (if not currently licensed in NC)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering for commercial and/or civil projects
  • Direct experience authoring, stamping, and signing geotechnical engineering reports
  • Proven field and laboratory testing interpretation skills
  • Strong command of geotechnical engineering principles, soils behavior, foundation systems, and site development
  • Proficiency with analytical software (e.g., GeoStudio, Slide, Plaxis, Settle3, gINT, EGADS, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; client-facing comfort level

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with North Carolina geologic & regulatory environments
  • Prior involvement in commercial land development, infrastructure, or industrial projects
  • Experience coordinating with environmental, surveying, and civil design teams
  • Project management or PM support experience a plus

Work Arrangement

  • Remote for qualified candidates within the U.S.
  • Hybrid preferred if local to Wilmington, NC (periodic field/office coordination)
  • Occasional regional travel for site evaluations may be required
