Electrical Project Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to join a growing multi-discipline MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineering design team. This is a hands-on engineering role that combines project management with technical electrical design. Unlike larger firms where project managers primarily oversee work, this position requires active involvement in the production and design of projects while managing client relationships and coordinating project execution.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of commercial and industrial projects in a collaborative environment.

Project Types

Projects include:

• Commercial retail facilities (2,000–50,000 SF)
• Office renovations, tenant improvements, and remodels
• Medical offices, clinics, and procedure spaces
• Clean rooms
• Light and medium manufacturing facilities
• Municipal facilities

Key Responsibilities

• Manage multiple electrical engineering projects from concept through completion.
• Define project scope and coordinate deliverables across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines.
• Develop and monitor project schedules and milestones.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform electrical engineering design for commercial and industrial projects, including:
• Power distribution systems
• Lighting design and photometric calculations
• Circuiting and panel schedules
• Generator and emergency power systems
• Electrical load calculations
• Code compliance and construction documentation
• Review and mentor junior engineers and designers as needed.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes and industry standards.
• Balance project management responsibilities with hands-on engineering production in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in commercial electrical engineering design.
• Strong knowledge of:
• National Electrical Code (NEC)
• NFPA standards
• International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
• Applicable building and energy codes
• Experience designing electrical systems for commercial and industrial facilities.
• Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.

Preferred

• Experience with photometric lighting design software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred but not required.
• Interest in future leadership or business management opportunities is a plus.
