JOB DESCRIPTION


We are seeking an experienced Structural Discipline Lead to provide technical leadership, quality oversight, and mentorship across the Structural Engineering discipline. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining technical excellence, improving design and documentation standards, supporting efficient workflows, and ensuring consistent project delivery.

This position will work closely with Supervising Structural Engineers and other Discipline Leads to establish best practices, resolve technical issues, support professional development, and improve the quality and effectiveness of Structural Engineering services.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Establish, maintain, and improve Structural Engineering design and drafting standards.
  • Monitor and improve design sequencing, communication, peer reviews, documentation, and quality processes.
  • Identify training, mentorship, and continuing education opportunities for the Structural Engineering team.
  • Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for Structural Engineering design and drafting issues.
  • Review staffing candidates for technical qualifications and overall fit.
  • Assist with performance evaluations and professional development of structural engineering team members.
  • Lead weekly planning and coordination meetings with Supervising Structural Engineers.
  • Develop and maintain discipline-specific standards for design, reviews, QA processes, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with other Discipline Leads on project schedules, design standards, deliverables, QA, and coordination.
  • Support the resolution of technical issues and develop action plans when necessary.
  • Ensure professional development plans align with discipline and organizational training goals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Structural Engineering practices and coordination with other disciplines.
  • Monitor utilization, rework, work-in-progress, budgets, quality, and operational performance.
  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve discipline performance, efficiency, and quality.
  • Provide regular updates on discipline performance, key issues, and improvement initiatives.



Basic Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Must have previous experience as a Supervising Structural Engineer.
  • Must have Project Management experience with multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong technical reasoning and excellent professional judgment.
  • Highly organized and deadline-driven with the ability to prioritize and delegate effectively.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.



Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience developing and implementing engineering standards and QA/QC procedures.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and supporting professional development.
  • Experience coordinating Structural Engineering work across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering design practices and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve technical quality, efficiency, and team performance.
