A Structural Designer for horizontal/bridge projects creates technical plans for bridges, retaining walls, and drainage, using CADD software to detail designs, perform load ratings, and ensure compliance with AASHTO and other codes for safe, functional infrastructure, working with senior engineers on everything from concept to construction documents. Key tasks include drafting, calculations, assisting with estimates, and field inspections, focusing on transportation structures. 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Design & Analysis: Assist in designing and analyzing various bridge types (highway, pedestrian, etc.), retaining walls, and drainage structures using structural analysis software.
  • Documentation: Prepare and develop construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
  • Code Compliance: Apply AASHTO codes and other relevant standards to ensure structural integrity and safety.
  • Calculations: Perform basic and advanced structural calculations, including bridge load ratings.
  • Collaboration: Work with senior engineers, project managers, and potentially clients/stakeholders in meetings.
  • Field Work: Participate in site visits, inspections, and condition assessments of existing structures.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize CADD (AutoCAD, Revit) and specialized structural analysis software.

 

Typical Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred
  • Knowledge of structural principles, materials, and design codes.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
