Mechanical Engineer

We design the mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and security systems that keep New York’s most demanding buildings running. As a Mechanical Engineer you will own HVAC, plumbing, and energy systems from concept through construction, delivering code-compliant, high-performance designs that protect occupants and owners. Your work directly determines whether projects open on time, stay within budget, and meet the city’s strictest standards.

Performance Objectives

• Produce complete mechanical construction documents (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection coordination) for at least three mid-to-large commercial or institutional projects per year that pass NYC DOB and FDNY review on first or second submission.
• Deliver coordinated BIM models and calculations that reduce RFIs and change orders by 20 % versus project baseline while meeting LEED or equivalent energy targets.
• Lead weekly coordination meetings with electrical, fire protection, and architectural teams so that 95 % of clashes are resolved before 50 % CD issuance.
• Mentor junior designers on load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and NYC Mechanical Code so they independently produce accurate drawings within six months.
• Close out projects with as-built documentation and owner training that achieve 100 % punch-list completion within 30 days of substantial completion.

Environment & Resources

You report to a Principal Mechanical Engineer and work inside a 51–200 person multi-discipline studio in New York. You will have Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, and TRACE software, access to in-house electrical and fire-protection specialists, and a project budget that includes site visits and code-consultant support. The firm’s early-stage, privately held culture values rapid technical decisions over layers of approval.

Essential Qualifications

• PE license (NY preferred) or ability to obtain within 12 months, plus 4+ years producing HVAC and plumbing CDs for occupied buildings.
• Proven record of NYC DOB filings and coordination with FDNY for systems over 50 tons or 50,000 cfm.
• Hands-on Revit MEP modeling that has been issued for construction without major clash-detection rework.
• Ability to run load, energy, and life-cycle calculations that have been accepted by owners and code officials.
• Clear written and verbal communication that has reduced RFIs on at least two completed projects.
