Mechanical Engineer

As Mechanical Engineer you will own HVAC, plumbing, and building-performance solutions that measurably outperform code while advancing our clients’ sustainability goals. Your work directly determines whether a tower, lab, or mixed-use development becomes a net-zero showcase or a costly under-performer.

Performance Objectives

• Deliver complete mechanical construction documents and energy models for at least three mid-to-large commercial projects per year that achieve 15–25 % better than Title 24 / ASHRAE 90.1.
• Reduce coordination RFIs by 30 % through early clash detection in Revit and weekly BIM coordination with electrical, fire-protection, and architectural teams.
• Produce load calculations, equipment selections, and sequence-of-operations that keep first-year energy-use intensity within 5 % of the modeled target.
• Lead value-engineering workshops that cut installed mechanical cost 8–12 % without sacrificing performance or LEED / WELL credits.
• Mentor two junior engineers so they independently produce permit-ready drawings within six months.
• Close out punch-list items and commissioning issues within 10 days of occupancy so client satisfaction scores stay above 4.5/5.

Environment & Resources

You report to a Principal Mechanical Engineer and sit on a 12-person MEP studio that includes electrical, fire-protection, and plumbing specialists. You have full access to Revit, IES-VE, TRACE 3D Plus, and Bluebeam, plus a dedicated project budget for software, PE exam support, and conference travel. The firm is 51–200 people, privately held, and growing in San Francisco’s high-performance design market.

Essential Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and California PE (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• 4+ years designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, lab, or mixed-use buildings using Revit and energy-modeling software.
• Proven track record of delivering Title 24 / ASHRAE-compliant systems that meet or beat modeled EUI.
• Ability to run clash-detection meetings and produce coordinated BIM models that survive construction without major rework.
• Clear written and verbal communication that turns complex load data into decisions architects and owners can act on.
