Responsibilities:
- Design electrical power systems, interior and exterior lighting, security (CCTV), and fire alarm systems related to residential, public, commercial, and industrial projects for both new construction and renovation.
- Electrical short circuit calculations, voltage drop calculations, load calculations, and conductor / raceway sizing.
- Perform code review
- Review client needs and decide on electrical design approach
- Electrical equipment selections
- Layout and design of electrical systems for drawings and specifications
- Coordinate with electrical utility companies as may be required to coordinate new services and upgrade existing electrical services.
- Work directly and coordinate with Building Department officials as may be required for plan approval.
- Complete projects by guiding and coordinating efforts of electrical project team members.
- Design lighting fixture layouts, fixture specifications, schedules, and lighting controls.
- For projects - oversee site visits, attend site meetings and punch lists as the technical consultant.
- Review shop drawings and attend meetings with contractors.
- Help junior electrical engineers with design questions and review designs for accuracy/quality.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing vendor networks.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering with 15+ years of professional experience.
- Experience in designing and developing MEP projects from concept to completion.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations, specify, size, and layout power, lighting, security, and fire alarm systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
- PE required but those with no PE are also considered for our SR designer role or project engineering role. Applications can be sent via this hire profile.
- Knowledge of electrical and building codes and standards, including: National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA-72, Energy Code, and International Building Code (IBC), including modifications by local AHJ.
- Ability to design electrical construction documents including drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and adobe required. This can be brushed up in on-the-job training we provide.
