Electrical Engineer

This position serves as the primary electrical power engineer in a geographic territory, performing all aspects of power system design, testing and troubleshooting, and power system analysis.

 

Power System Engineer (PSE) must be familiar with a variety of electrical distribution systems, in a variety of business segments, including manufacturing, healthcare, water/wastewater, and data centers. Technical scope of work includes power system analysis, power quality testing and troubleshooting, power system design and improvement projects, both office-based and onsite. PSE understands and applies IEEE, ANSI, and NFPA standards, including the National Electrical Code, for successful performance of analysis, design, and field testing work. PSE must also be familiar with power system design methodologies, grounding, and with power system equipment including overcurrent protective devices, motor-control centers, switchgear, transformers, and other low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment of many manufacturers. PSE must be able to successfully obtain power system data from existing and portable power monitoring devices, and be able to analyze and troubleshoot power system problems. PSE must be safety-focused, and be able to recognize and avoid safety hazards in a variety of facility types, and be able to lead technical teams in the safe and satisfactory performance of onsite activities. Senior PSE’s may serve as a project leader and as Engineer in Responsible Charge of PSE work.

 

Qualifications:

 

·        Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from accredited university

·        3 - 7 years of cumulative experience in power engineering studies and design experience in industrial projects

·        EIT certification or PE preferred

·        Engineering experience in a Consulting Engineering firm would be a strong asset

·        Experience with electric power systems, short-circuit, protective coordination, load flow, motor starting, arc flash hazard analysis

·        Experience with project engineering proposals, project development, and customer presentations

·        Experience with electrical design and network architectures, protection knowledge, electrical layout, and understanding plant/facility processes

·        Excellent attitude toward providing system solutions to customer problems

·        Proven skills in written and oral communication of technical topics

·        Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, electrical system analysis software experience preferred using SKM, Easypower and/or ETAP--EDSA experience a plus

·        Work with limited supervision or guidance, both independently and as a member of a team

·        Available to travel within assigned state (NC)
