Technical Lead – Audiovisual Systems

Location: Toronto, ON


Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Regional Technical Supervisor / Project Management Team


About the Role

Our client is a national leader in digital media and audiovisual integration solutions, known for delivering complex systems with a strong focus on quality, process, and customer satisfaction.

They are seeking a Technical Lead to play a hands-on leadership role across project implementation, commissioning, and system delivery. This position sits between project management and field execution, leading technical teams on-site while ensuring projects are installed, tested, documented, and delivered to industry standards.


This role is ideal for an experienced AV professional who enjoys being in the field, mentoring others, solving complex technical challenges, and taking ownership from project kickoff through completion.


What You’ll Be Responsible For:

Project Implementation & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the technical implementation of audiovisual systems from kickoff through project closeout
  • Work closely with project managers, regional leadership, and clients to ensure systems are installed, configured, tested, and commissioned correctly
  • Oversee internal technicians and subcontractors during installation, testing, commissioning, and end-user training
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for advanced troubleshooting and post-installation support
  • Provide regular project status updates to the Project Manager and Regional Technical Supervisor

Field Coordination & Execution

  • Coordinate daily technical activities across installation crews and subcontractors
  • Prepare and review install material lists, cable run lists, and site readiness requirements
  • Attend site meetings and communicate with clients to ensure timelines and site conditions remain on track
  • Coordinate project shipments with administrative and shipping teams
  • Ensure unused equipment is returned, documented, and processed correctly
  • Maintain a professional, efficient presence on job sites and escalate personnel issues as needed

Documentation & Closeout

  • Prepare and coordinate closeout documentation including as-builts, manuals, and warranty documentation
  • Maintain deficiency lists and track outstanding items through resolution
  • Update drawings and documentation to reflect final system configurations
  • Support system sign-off and project completion milestones

Quality, Financial & Process Support

  • Assist with technical reviews of project scope, BOMs, drawings, and labor estimates when requested
  • Help evaluate project data for accuracy and prioritize technical execution
  • Conduct audits, site reviews, scheduling coordination, and reporting with recommended action items
  • Work collaboratively with internal trades and staff to ensure efficient project delivery

Team Development & Mentorship

  • Lead by example in technical execution, professionalism, and adherence to process
  • Train and mentor technicians to improve technical skill sets and job performance
  • Support team coverage during vacations or absences as needed

Safety & Customer Experience

  • Promote and enforce all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ensure staff and subcontractors comply with safety guidelines at all times
  • Respond to customer escalations promptly and professionally
  • Maintain a client-focused approach while resolving issues to company standards


What You’ll Bring

Education & Certifications

  • Post-secondary education in Electronics, Broadcast, Telecom, or related discipline
  • CTS certification required; CTS-I preferred
  • Networking knowledge preferred (IP networking, CTS-D, or related certifications)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on industry experience in audiovisual systems integration
  • Experience leading technical teams and subcontractors in the field
  • Strong background in system installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with commercial AV platforms such as Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, BSS, ClearOne, Cisco, or similar
  • Strong understanding of wiring standards, rack building, termination, and NEC requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret system schematics and architectural drawings
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Visio preferred
  • Ability to perform minor DSP and control system changes
  • Advanced troubleshooting capability across integrated AV systems

  • Capable of lifting heavy equipment and working at heights
  • Comfortable working in confined spaces and variable environmental conditions
  • Flexible schedule, including extended hours, weekends, and on-call support as required
