Digital Designer / CAD-CAM Technician

Location: Calgary

Employment Type: Full-time, Onsite

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Digital Designer / CAD-CAM Technician to join a modern dental laboratory in Calgary. This role is ideal for a digitally driven technician with a strong understanding of dental anatomy, restorative design, and digital workflows. The position plays a critical role in translating clinical prescriptions into accurate, functional, and aesthetic digital restorations.

Performance Requirements & Expectations

Digital Design & Modeling

  • Design dental restorations including crowns, bridges, veneers, implant abutments, and full-arch prosthetics
  • Utilize dental CAD software such as 3Shape and Exocad to create precise virtual 3D models tailored to patient anatomy
  • Perform diagnostic wax-ups and design surgical guides when required
  • Ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, and clinical specifications

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with dentists, ceramists, and lab technicians to interpret prescriptions and confirm case details
  • Coordinate case planning across departments to support efficient workflows
  • Participate in training sessions and cross-functional collaboration as needed

Quality Assurance

  • Inspect digital designs and final outputs for fit, aesthetics, and accuracy
  • Ensure adherence to lab standards and clinician expectations
  • Maintain detailed documentation and records of design processes

Skills & Qualifications

Education & Training

  • Diploma or certification in Dental Technology or CAD/CAM Dentistry
  • Advanced or specialized training in digital dental design preferred

Technical Proficiency

  • Proficient in dental CAD software, specifically Exocad and 3Shape
  • Familiarity with CAM systems and lab workflows, including zirconia milling and porcelain layering
  • Willingness to train the right candidate who has foundational CAD/CAM education and experience

Soft Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and software updates
