CAD/CAM Production Manager – Dental Laboratory
Location: Harrisburg, NC
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Position Overview
The CAD/CAM Production Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all digital operations within the dental laboratory’s CAD/CAM department. This role ensures efficient case flow, accuracy in digital intake, proper management of green-state changes, and smooth coordination across the digital production team. In addition to managing workflows and equipment, this position directly supervises all CAD/CAM team members and ensures the department operates at the highest level of quality and efficiency.
This role is primarily focused on operational and team leadership rather than case design. Case design will be performed as needed but is secondary to managing people, processes, and daily production flow.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and supervise all CAD/CAM department team members, ensuring productivity, accuracy, and adherence to lab standards.
- Provide training, coaching, and ongoing development for CAD/CAM technicians.
- Assign daily responsibilities, monitor performance, and conduct workflow and quality audits.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
Workflow Management & Digital Production Oversight
- Oversee all daily operations within the CAD/CAM department, ensuring efficient case flow from intake through production.
- Manage case scheduling, prioritization, and interdepartmental coordination.
- Oversee green-state changes for scans, scan bodies, and digital case inputs.
- Manage scanning of all impressions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and design-ready data.
- Maintain organized digital case files and ensure smooth communication with downstream production teams.
Equipment Management
- Oversee proper use, maintenance, and calibration of all CAD/CAM equipment, including scanners, mills, and 3D printers.
- Coordinate repairs and vendor support as needed.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and ensure consistent production quality.
Clinical Provider Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for doctors and clinical partners regarding digital case questions and needs.
- Troubleshoot scan/data concerns and gather necessary clinical details for accurate case outcomes.
- Maintain strong, professional provider relationships and represent the lab with expertise and clarity.
Quality Control & Continuous Improvement
- Review incoming scans and digital data for accuracy, completeness, and readiness.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks and implement process improvements for higher efficiency.
- Maintain and update SOPs for digital workflows.
- Ensure consistent quality standards across all CAD/CAM operations.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in a digital dental laboratory.
- Strong understanding of CAD/CAM workflows, digital scanning, and 3D printing technologies.
- Experience supervising or training team members (formal leadership experience preferred).
- Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
