Senior Vice President, Communications and Marketing

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
At a pivotal moment for students, campuses, and Jewish life, Hillel International seeks a strategic, influential, and highly accomplished Senior Vice President of Communications and Marketing (SVP) to help shape the brand, reputation, and public presence of one of the most consequential organizations serving the next generation.
Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the SVP will oversee communications, brand strategy, marketing, and related engagement functions while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership. Working closely with the CEO, this individual will provide strategic counsel on organizational messaging and complex, high-profile issues while guiding Hillel's positioning and engagement strategy across key audiences in a rapidly evolving environment.

Key responsibilities include:
Executive Leadership & Team Management
• Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, helping shape organizational strategy, priorities, and decision-making while acting as a strategic partner to the CEO and Chief External Affairs Officer.
• Lead, develop, and inspire a distributed team of nearly 40 professionals across communications, marketing, fundraising communications, and related engagement functions, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
• Oversee and support experienced senior leaders responsible for managing large, multi-layered teams and functions, ensuring strong performance, alignment, and professional growth.
• Ensure communications, marketing, and audience engagement strategies are aligned with organizational priorities and positioned to advance Hillel's mission and impact.
Communications, Reputation & Strategic Counsel
· Lead enterprise-wide communications strategy, including crisis communications, related to campus antisemitism, geopolitical developments, reputational matters, and other high-profile issues affecting Hillel and Jewish students.
· Provide strategic counsel and sound judgment to executive leadership on organizational messaging, positioning, emerging challenges, and sensitive communications matters.
· Partner closely with Campus Affairs, Legal, executive leadership, and external advisors to develop coordinated and effective communications strategies that support organizational goals.
· Strengthen Hillel's public voice and reputation by clearly articulating its impact, advancing thought leadership, and shaping understanding of its mission and work among key audiences.
Brand, Marketing & Audience Engagement
· Strengthen Hillel's brand positioning, visibility, and relevance across a complex and evolving landscape.
· Provide strategic oversight of Hillel's marketing and brand functions, empowering experienced marketing leaders responsible for day-to-day execution.
· Ensure marketing, communications, and fundraising messaging work together to support audience engagement, organizational priorities, and long-term growth.
· Promote innovation, creativity, and data-informed decision-making to deepen engagement among students, alumni, parents, donors, and other key stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
At a defining moment for Jewish students and campuses, Hillel seeks a strategic communications and marketing leader to help advance its mission and public presence. The successful candidate will bring deep communications and marketing expertise, exceptional judgment, strong executive presence, and a proven ability to build influence, drive engagement, and advance organizational impact.
• Senior Leadership & Team Management – 15+ years leading communications, marketing, public affairs, or related functions, including oversight of senior leaders and distributed teams.
• Strategic Communications & Reputation Management – Significant experience leading communications strategy and crisis communications, with strong judgment and decisiveness.
• Executive Presence & Strategic Advising – Experience serving as a trusted advisor to CEOs, boards, and senior stakeholders, with the ability to influence and counsel at the highest levels.
• Brand, Marketing & Audience Engagement – Proven success elevating brand visibility, engaging key audiences, and aligning communications and marketing with organizational goals.
• Jewish Communal & Campus Fluency – Sophisticated understanding of the Jewish communal and higher education landscapes, or deep familiarity with issues affecting Jewish students and campuses.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally several times per year.
COMPENSATION: The salary range is $245,000–$275,000, commensurate with experience.
