ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

American Friends of Bar Ilan University (AFBIU) is seeking a strategic, organized, and systems-oriented Director, Development Operations (‘Director’). Leading the creation, optimization, and oversight of AFBIU’s development systems and day-to-day processes, the Director will play a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s capacity to build major donor relationships and expand philanthropic support in keeping with the strategic vision and growth goals of AFBIU’s new executive leadership team.

 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director will manage and grow a team and liaise with key external vendors, including outsourced Communications & PR consultants.

 

Key responsibilities include:

Donor Stewardship Strategy & Support

  • Partner with the CEO and CDO to ensure portfolio donors are meaningfully engaged throughout the year, including receiving information about projects of interest, updates on projects funded, and acknowledgement of important holidays and life-cycle events.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator in monitoring the CEO and CDO’s calendars for upcoming meetings with donors and foundations and proactively preparing them for these by generating donor profiles and creating pitch-decks, collateral, and other relevant information.

·        Collaborate with the Communications & PR consultant, Direct Marketing agency and development team to implement donor stewardship plans, ensuring that the development team has templates and tools for ongoing stewardship of portfolio donors.

 

Development Systems, Processes & Metrics

  • Partner with the Donor Engagement Manager to create an effective system for tracking and categorizing development projects, including gifts and requests for proposals, proposal fulfilment, and following up on tasks needed towards funding proposals.

·        Work with the CDO, Direct Marketing Agency and Database Manager to create and monitor fundraising metrics and analytics by individual fundraiser, overall fundraising performance, campaign results, and direct marketing efforts.

 

Logistics Coordination & Vendor Relations

  • Work with the CDO to coordinate with AFBIU’s partners in Israel to ensure that all US-based visits and delegation tours from BIU students and faculty, as well as donor and board member missions to Israel, are expertly planned in accordance with clearly defined objectives.
  • Create and manage a calendar of engagement events and provide direct event oversight through external event planning personnel and/or partnership with local fundraisers to ensure that all events reflect AFBIU’s brand and achieve their intended goals.

·        Serve as the liaison to an external Communications & PR consultant and Direct Marketing agency, ensuring a seamless flow of real-time information from BIU and AFBIU to each entity.

 

Team Management & Growth

  • Manage a team of two direct reports, the Manager of Donor Engagement and Development Coordinator. As the Development Coordinator will also report to and support the CEO and CDO, the Director will work with all parties to help prioritize the Coordinator’s daily tasks.

·        Increase the organization’s overall donor stewardship and engagement capacity by strategically engaging outsourced vendors, contractors, and part-time/ full-time hires as needed.

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The Director, Development Operations will bring 8+ years of operational strategy and project management experience. The ideal candidate will be both systems and stewardship-minded, implementing innovative and effective internal development processes and tools that reflect a keen understanding of how fundraisers utilize data and stewardship pieces day-to-day to engage and inspire donors.

The ideal candidate will bring:

·        Experience partnering with executive staff to create and execute organizational strategy and key projects.

·        A track record of effective project management with a focus on implementing donor management systems and/or project proposal systems within a nonprofit organization.

·        Excellent technical proficiency with donor management software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce NPSP) and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello).

·        Ability to lead and grow teams and manage relationships with external vendors and consultants.

·        Demonstrated experience using, managing, monitoring and updating social media platforms.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology, nonprofit management preferred. Project management certification (PMP, CAPM) is a plus.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of four days per week in the office in Midtown Manhattan.

 

COMPENSATION: $150,000 - $175,000 commensurate with experience
