Technical Business Development Manager - Process Filtration
Remote, United States | Full-Time | Frequent travel | Exclusive retained search
Win the specification, not just the order.
Our client is an established U.S. manufacturer of filtration and fluid-conditioning systems. Its process filtration group is expanding into total engineered solutions: carbon, sand and greensand filtration, ion exchange, and reverse osmosis (RO), from small-flow units to large, high-flow filtration systems.
The person in this seat leads that growth. You win project-based capital sales by engaging consulting engineers, OEMs, EPCs, and municipal and industrial representatives early in the design cycle, open markets beyond the company’s traditional base, and help bring new product lines to market.
What you will actually do
- Drive capital and project sales of engineered filtration systems, with a focus on new product lines and new applications.
- Engage consulting engineers, OEMs, EPCs, and end users early in the design cycle to influence and win specifications.
- Build a network of municipal manufacturers’ representatives, plus direct relationships with engineers and OEMs, in priority territories.
- Open new markets, including municipal and industrial water and wastewater, and gas applications such as hydrogen and CNG.
- Translate customer process requirements into the right engineered solution, working with engineering on design, sizing, and proposals.
- Serve as the technical and commercial resource that helps the sales team learn the new product lines.
- Partner with product management, engineering, regional sales managers, and authorized distributors on pre-sales, specification development, and solution design.
- Keep the CRM pipeline current, and bring market and competitive insight back to the business.
What this job is not
This is not an order-taking or account-maintenance seat. You win business early, at the specification stage, and open markets the company has not sold into before.
How success is measured
Specification wins, new-product and project bookings, and new markets, OEMs, and applications opened.
What you need to have done
- 10+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- A two-year technical degree at minimum. A bachelor’s in engineering, business, sales, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Prospected, qualified, and closed project-based sales, and explained technical solutions clearly to engineers and buyers.
- Sold engineered capital equipment or systems for water and wastewater treatment through consulting engineers, OEMs, or municipal and industrial reps (strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of media and greensand filtration, carbon, ion exchange, and RO, plus process water or compressed gas applications (preferred).
- Established relationships with consulting engineers and municipal reps (a plus).
- Manufacturing and technical services experience (preferred).
- A valid driver’s license is required. A valid passport is preferred.
Where you work
Remote within the United States, with frequent travel, including overnight, to customers, project sites, headquarters, and regional offices.
