The Company Behind the Role

Our client is an established research organization with a remote workforce that includes both corporate and hourly employees. The company offers a stable, collaborative environment where employees are trusted to take ownership of their work and contribute ideas. The Human Resources Manager will oversee HR operations across the organization, balancing essential employee support and administration with opportunities to strengthen policies, processes, systems, and compensation practices. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this role offers considerable autonomy and visibility across the business.

You'll Enjoy This Role If...

  • You enjoy being a hands-on HR generalist and are comfortable personally managing payroll, benefits, onboarding, offboarding, leave, and employee records.
  • You want broad ownership of the employee lifecycle rather than responsibility for just one area of HR.
  • You are equally comfortable handling recurring administrative work and identifying better ways to approach policies, processes, and programs.
  • You appreciate having direct access to senior leadership and the ability to move decisions forward without multiple layers of approval.
  • You understand the complexities of supporting employees across several states, locations, and classifications.
  • You work well independently and don't need an established HR department
  • You value the stability of an established organization with a remote culture that already works well.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage end-to-end payroll for salaried exempt and hourly non-exempt employees.
  • Administer employee benefits and serve as the primary contact for benefits-related questions.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, employment documentation, benefits elections, and performance information.
  • Manage leave requests, paid time off, attendance records, and offboarding requirements.
  • Partner with leadership on recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and talent development.
  • Provide day-to-day HR guidance and support to employees and managers.
  • Support performance management, employee relations, and conflict resolution.
  • Coordinate with call center personnel who assist with elements of local HR administration.
  • Maintain HR policies and procedures and support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Advise managers on the consistent application of HR policies and programs.
  • Administer compensation programs, including salary benchmarking and analysis.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR policies, processes, systems, and documentation.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least five years of progressive, hands-on HR generalist experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • Direct experience processing payroll and administering employee benefits.
  • A strong working knowledge of HR practices and employment law.
  • Experience supporting employees in a remote working environment.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, payroll platforms, and employee database systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A highly organized, accurate, and process-minded approach to your work.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with employees and stakeholders who do not report directly to you.

An Added Plus

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience supporting a multi-state or multi-site workforce.
  • Experience working with both salaried and hourly employees.
  • Experience selecting or implementing an HRIS or payroll platform.
