Job Description 

Requires independent performance and working under established procedures, performing a wide variety of laboratory tests and procedures including collection, preparation observation and processing of bacteriologic, chemical, morphologic, and microscopic tests which provide data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases. 

The Medical Laboratory Technician position is responsible for performing laboratory tests including waived, moderate and high complexity, to comply with applicable regulations of organizations governing laboratories and according to established procedures to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients in various areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Serology and Transfusion Services under the supervision of a Medical Technologist. This person assumes responsibility and accountability for the duties of the position and is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of their respective Department. 

Chief Medical Technologist (Transfusion Services) performs all testing performed in Transfusion Services including various procedures in ABO Compatibility testing, antibody detection and identification and serology. The section chief for Transfusion Services is responsible for all department policy and procedure, training of employees, staffing and ongoing technical competency assessment. 

The job of a medical technologist involves independent performance and working under established procedures, performing a wide variety of laboratory tests and procedures including collection, preparation observation and processing of bacteriologic, chemical, morphologic, and microscopic tests which provide data for use in the treatment and diagnosis of diseases.  

Lead Medical Technologist (Hematology) performs all testing performed in Hematology department including various procedures in Urinalysis and Serology. The section chief for Hematology is responsible for all department policy and procedure, training of employees, staffing and ongoing technical competency assessment.

Job Responsibilities 

Position Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician   

Location: US Virgin Islands 

Shift: 8hr and 10hr shifts (Day/Evening/Night Shifts) 

Job Description:  

• Performs various laboratory procedures utilizing automated equipment, microscopes, manual 
• Procedures, and use of the computer terminal 
• Prepares reagents and specimens for processing 
• Performs all clinical laboratory tests (may include Microbiology and/or Blood Bank testing) 
• Utilizes a computer as part of the LIS/HIS and/or analyzer software 
• Evaluates quality control results 
• Follows up and documents actions relating to abnormal panic results 
• Prepares specimens for send-outs 
• Consults with other lab staff and healthcare personnel on test results, specimen requirements and testing protocols 
• Minimal patient contact (collect bleeding times). 
• Collects, receives, and/or processes urine and other body fluid specimens 
• Performs clerical functions as necessary

Job Requirements 

Successful candidates for the Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist: 

• MLT they will take a Bachelor's in Biology/Chem with petting experience and no certification needed 
• Bachelor’s of Science Degree with Certification required. 
• Must have high school diploma or GED and an Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or higher from an accredited college/university.  
• Knowledgeable and comfortable working with computers. 
• ASCP Certification eligible required. 
• A minimum of 5 years directly in related experience as a Medical Technologist.  
• Ability to manage multiple priorities detailed oriented 
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills 
• Knowledge of regulatory agencies and their standards and processes.
