Position Title: Pathologist Assistant

Job Summary: The Pathologist Assistant will support pathologists by performing gross examination of surgical specimens, assisting with specimen processing, and ensuring accurate and efficient workflow within the pathology laboratory. This role is ideal for a highly organized professional with strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality patient care.


Job Responsibilities 


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and description of surgical pathology specimens under the direction and supervision of a pathologist.
  • Assist pathologists with specimen dissection, preparation, and selection of tissue sections for microscopic examination.
  • Ensure accurate specimen identification, labeling, documentation, and handling throughout the workflow.
  • Prepare and maintain gross descriptions and ensure completeness of pathology reports.
  • Assist with frozen sections, special procedures, and other laboratory functions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, histotechnologists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
  • ASCP certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA(ASCP)) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical pathology procedures, anatomy, and specimen handling.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a laboratory team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, quality, and patient care.


Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience working in a hospital, reference laboratory, or private pathology setting.
  • Experience with a wide variety of surgical specimens and grossing procedures.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and pathology workflows.
