About Our Client

Our client is a U.S.-based specialty manufacturer operating across multiple subsidiaries, with an established associate and retiree population and a mature payroll, benefits, and pension infrastructure. The payroll function sits at the center of a broad cross-functional ecosystem — supporting active employees, retirees, taxing authorities, and benefit providers, and partnering closely with HR, IT, benefits, pension services, accounting, and plant operations.

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $40 - $65/Hour.

The Interim Payroll Manager leads the day-to-day operations of the U.S. payroll team, delivering accurate and timely payments to associates, retirees, and related parties across the parent company and its U.S. subsidiaries. This engagement owns the administration, service, and compliance requirements of U.S. payroll — including pension payments, tax, and benefit reporting — while participating in cross-functional projects that strengthen the accuracy of payroll and financial data delivered to associates, retirees, and internal departments.

As an Interim Payroll Manager, you will:

  • Lead the payroll team to deliver timely and accurate payments to associates, retirees, taxing authorities, and benefit providers
  • Manage and develop direct reports, building core competency, productivity, and payroll expertise so the team responds promptly to associate, retiree, and business unit inquiries
  • Coordinate cross-functional processes between payroll and associate benefits, pension services, IT, shop floor reporting, plants, accounting, and HR to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Manage and monitor the garnishment process, 401(k) plans, and monthly pension payments for all associates and retirees
  • Interpret company policy, wage and hour law, deferred compensation, pensions, and stock option taxability, along with other statutes governing wage payments and withholdings
  • Ensure proper execution of legislative and tax changes impacting net pay, benefits, and tax withholdings; maintain full compliance with IRS, DOL, and state and local rules and statutes
  • Educate and advise Compensation, Business Units, Corporate Centers, and subsidiaries on policies and laws affecting payroll practices and procedures for all U.S. associates
  • Implement new pay processes in response to tax-driven initiatives and broader organizational change
  • Provide functional expertise for payroll systems and interfaces, partnering with technical teams to develop new processes, refine existing ones, and support the payroll processors day-to-day

As an Interim Payroll Manager, you have:

  • Payroll leadership experience
  • Multi-subsidiary and multi-state expertise
  • Relevant experience supporting Pension and 401(k) retirement plans
  • Systems experience with UKG, ADP WFN, Kronos, and MySuccess
