Position Summary:
The Inventory Material Handler is responsible for receiving, organizing, tracking, and distributing stone and granite materials throughout the facility. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate inventory levels, ensuring efficient material flow to production, and supporting fabrication schedules. The ideal candidate will have experience with stone handling, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Control:
- Maintain accurate counts of all stone and granite slabs, remnants, and supplies.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies.
- Use inventory management software or barcode scanning systems to track materials.
Material Handling:
- Load, unload, move, and stage slabs using forklifts, overhead cranes, or other lifting equipment.
- Ensure all materials are safely stored and labeled by type, color, and lot number.
- Transport materials from inventory to the production floor or designated staging areas as needed.
Receiving and Inspection:
- Inspect incoming stone shipments for damage, accuracy, and quality.
- Record received materials in the inventory system and report issues to the supervisor.
Safety and Equipment Use:
- Follow all OSHA and company safety protocols when handling heavy stone materials.
- Perform routine inspections on material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes).
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate effectively with the production, templating, and installation teams to ensure timely material availability.
- Assist with material returns, adjustments, and special customer requests as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1–2 years of experience in material handling, warehouse, or inventory roles (stone or granite industry preferred).
- Forklift certification and experience operating overhead cranes or lifting devices.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with inventory management systems (ERP software a plus).
- Ability to lift to 75 lbs. and handle large, heavy materials safely.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
Working Conditions:
- Work performed in a warehouse and fabrication environment.
- Exposure to stone dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Requires the use of PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
