Job Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in supporting the design, development, and optimization of aerospace manufacturing processes, with a primary focus on fixture design, fabrication, and assembly operations. This position is responsible for developing innovative solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and safety, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will also serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers and collaborate cross-functionally with design, production, and quality teams to drive operational excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Fixture Design & Development:

·      Lead the design and implementation of production tooling and assembly fixtures to support fabrication and assembly of complex aerospace components.

·      Ensure fixtures are ergonomic, cost-effective, maintainable, and compliant with safety standards.

·      Oversee fabrication and qualification of tooling, ensuring conformance to engineering specifications.

Fabrication & Assembly Engineering:

·      Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for precision fabrication, machining, and assembly of aerospace structures and components.

·      Identify and implement tooling / support needs in advance to support seamless assembly or fabrications.

·      Create and maintain process documentation including work instructions, routings, and manufacturing plans.

·      Drive process improvements to reduce lead time, increase throughput, and ensure repeatable high-quality results.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving:

·      Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other problem-solving methodologies to identify and implement process improvements.

·      Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for manufacturing issues, including nonconformances and quality escapes.

·      Support capital equipment selection and justification to enhance fabrication and assembly capabilities.



 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

·      Partner with design engineering to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) input early in product development.

·      Collaborate with production, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth transition of new products and fixtures into production.

·      Interface directly with customers and suppliers to support technical discussions and resolve manufacturing challenges.

Leadership & Mentorship:

·      Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and operators.

·      Serve as a subject matter expert in manufacturing processes, fixture design, and aerospace assembly best practices.

·      Lead or support major engineering projects and initiatives.

Education/Experience:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.

7+ years experience in aerospace manufacturing engineering experience with a focus on fixture design, fabrication, and assembly.

 

 

Skills & Abilities (i.e. technical, organizations, knowledge, etc.):

  • Proven experience with CAD software (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, or similar) for tooling and fixture design.
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace materials, fabrication methods, GD&T, and assembly processes.
  • Proficient with GD&T and tolerance stack ups for both welded and nonwelded assemblies.
  • Experience working with weldments, complex assemblies and sheet metal / formed parts. 
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process improvement tools.
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (AS9100, NADCAP, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Skills:

·      Experience with advanced manufacturing methods.

·      Hands on experience with CNC machining, programming, and welding.

Travel & Physical Requirements:

·      Must be able to lift 25lbs., sit for 8 hours a day..


PPE Requirements

·      Properly wearing PPE as required.

·      Attending required training sessions.

·      Properly caring for, cleaning, maintaining, and inspecting PPE as required.

·      Following EMF PPE policies and rules.

·      Informing the supervisor of the need to repair or replace PPE. Safety Glasses, Hand Protection, Ear Protection and Head Protection.
