Senior Backend Engineer

We are building the AI agent platform that automates financial analysis, reporting, and data workflows for corporate finance teams. As Senior Backend Engineer you will own the systems that turn unstructured financial data into reliable, real-time insights our customers depend on every day. This role sits at the core of our product: the quality, speed, and reliability of what you ship directly determines whether finance leaders trust AI with their most critical work.

Performance Objectives

• Design, build, and operate production APIs and data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve financial datasets at scale while maintaining 99.9% uptime.
• Ship backend services that enable AI agents to complete end-to-end analysis and reporting workflows 10x faster than manual processes within the first six months.
• Reduce p95 latency on core financial query and aggregation endpoints by 40% through architecture, caching, and query optimization.
• Own the reliability of data integrity and audit trails so every number our agents produce can be traced and trusted by CFOs and controllers.
• Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineers so the team consistently delivers production-ready code with clear SLAs and observability.
• Collaborate with product and AI teams to productionize new agent capabilities from prototype to customer-facing feature in under four weeks.

Environment & Resources

You will report to the Head of Engineering and work closely with a small, senior team of backend, AI, and product engineers in New York. You will have autonomy over architecture choices, modern cloud infrastructure, and the budget to adopt the right tools. Early-stage resources mean you will influence stack decisions, hiring, and how we scale the platform as we grow.

Essential Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating production backend systems that handle high-volume, high-stakes data (financial, transactional, or similar).
• Proven track record shipping scalable APIs, data pipelines, and services with measurable reliability and performance outcomes.
• Deep experience with Python or similar, plus cloud infrastructure, databases, and observability in production.
• Ability to design for data integrity, auditability, and security in regulated or high-trust environments.
• Comfort leading technical decisions and mentoring others in a fast-moving, early-stage setting.
