Senior Software Engineer
New York, NY (Hybrid) · $190K to $240K + Equity
About the company
Our client is a well funded, venture backed cybersecurity company, roughly 100 people. They are growing quickly, profitable, and building out a new engineering presence in New York.
The role
We are hiring Senior Software Engineers to work on either cutting edge, experimental products or the core infrastructure underneath them. We want product focused generalists and hackers at heart: people who can own features end to end and ship quickly without heavy oversight.
What you will do
- Develop full stack features across the whole product lifecycle, from planning and design through to deployment and optimisation
- Build with TypeScript, React, GraphQL and Ruby on Rails, with scope to work in modern languages like Rust or Node.js on newer defense focused products
- Step into product decisions where it makes sense, not just execution
- Mentor other engineers and help shape the culture of a growing NYC team
What we are looking for
- 4 to 7 years of full stack experience with TypeScript and a modern backend object oriented language (a lean toward backend or frontend is fine)
- A track record at a Series A to C startup, or demonstrated high growth and promotion at a larger company
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from a top 30 program
- High ownership, moves fast, and genuinely motivated by the mission
- Based in New York City or willing to relocate
- Comfortable building products for US government and federal defense customers
Nice to have
- Recent public code, a strong GitHub or a portfolio. This is a helpful signal, not a requirement, since many employers restrict personal GitHub use.
Logistics and compensation
-
Salary: $190K to $240K depending on experience and skill level, plus competitive equity
-
Location: Hybrid in NYC. Expect to start around one day a week in office, moving toward three days a week by end of year
-
Relocation: Assistance available for non local candidates
-
Work authorisation: US citizens and Green Card holders only. No visa sponsorship, given the federal defense nature of the work.
Interview process
The full loop runs three weeks maximum, and the team is prioritising interviews to move fast.
-
Screen (45 minutes): A non technical conversation about your background, projects, values and motivations
-
Tech screen (1 hour): A live coding session on a practical data manipulation problem. Not a Leetcode style algorithms interview.
-
Virtual on-site: A code review round (review a pull request or codebase and suggest improvements) followed by a system design round
-
Final interview (in person, NYC): A culture fit conversation with the hiring manager. Non local candidates are flown in.
