Electrical & Controls Engineer
The Electrical & Controls Engineer will be a key contributor to improving plant performance, system reliability, and overall operational results. This position is designed to deliver meaningful impact through engineering improvements, technical leadership, and strategic initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and long-term equipment reliability—rather than focusing solely on routine daily tasks.
Core Responsibilities & Performance Expectations-Electrical & Controls Engineer
Improve Equipment Reliability & Minimize Downtime
- Lead efforts to enhance electrical and controls system reliability, with a focus on reducing unplanned downtime year over year
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions to eliminate repeat failures
Execute High-Impact Engineering Projects
- Take ownership of electrical and controls projects from concept through completion, ensuring delivery on schedule, within budget, and aligned with performance goals
- Support and lead capital projects that improve automation, safety, efficiency, and system capabilities
Enhance Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Drive electrical safety initiatives and ensure adherence to corporate engineering and safety standards
- Promote and enforce NFPA 70E compliance, ensuring all systems meet safety and environmental requirements
Improve Process Control & Operational Efficiency
- Optimize PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems to improve process stability and production throughput
- Identify system performance gaps and implement engineered solutions that deliver measurable improvements
Support Technical Development & Collaboration
- Mentor junior engineers and electricians to strengthen team capabilities and troubleshooting effectiveness
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and external engineering partners to align priorities and drive results
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
- Minimum 1 year of controls engineering experience in a continuous and/or discrete manufacturing environment (3+ years preferred)
- Experience working with Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems (including programming)
- Ability to solve project-related and basic process engineering challenges
- Demonstrated project management experience, including managing projects up to $50K
- Strong collaboration skills with internal teams and external engineering resources
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities
- Self-motivated with initiative to complete tasks and identify improvement opportunities
Skills & Certifications-Electrical & Controls Engineer
(Bold = Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI systems
- Industrial networking / control network systems (DeviceNet, ControlNet)
- DCS / SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware or similar)
- Process control experience (water systems, compressed air systems preferred)
- Exposure to Honeywell C300 or C200 systems (preferred, not required)
Additional Role Details
- Approximately 50% troubleshooting (“firefighting”) and 50% project-based work
- Continuous improvement focus on electrical and control systems
- Works alongside another Electrical & Controls Engineer and an experienced E&C Technician for support and collaboration
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $79,000 – $105,000
- Full-time position with full benefits
- Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
- Interview travel expenses reimbursed

Ideal Candidate Profile
- Balanced experience between hands-on troubleshooting and project execution
- Strong foundation in controls and industrial automation systems
- Experience improving process control systems, particularly in utilities such as water and compressed air
- Comfortable working within a team environment while also taking ownership of projects
- Solid understanding of Allen-Bradley platforms and industrial control networks
