Tax Manager
About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing national accounting and advisory firm, is currently seeking a Tax Manager for their San Jose, California office. In this hybrid role, you will work under the direction of our Tax Director and Tax Partners to prepare tax returns for clients in a variety of industries.
Responsibilities
- Liaison: Assume client responsibility for clients where the responsibility is delegated from Tax Partners
- Advisory: demonstrate thorough knowledge and proficiency in advanced technical skills necessary for advising clients
- Client service: ensure engagement assignments are completed within budgeted time
- Manage: supervise and train staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, development training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs
- Mentor: develop, coach and train Supervising Seniors, Seniors and Staff accountants
- Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations
- Assume responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate tasks to tax preparers as necessary
- Participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the audit and assurance team with larger clients
- Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; represent the client before the appropriate taxing authorities if needed
- Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes are made
- Networking and Business Development: participates in firm practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community and industry activities
- Research and evaluate tax preparation and tax research software for recommendation to Partners
- Assume tax preparation responsibility for more complex business returns
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research

Minimum 1+ year experience managing and supervising tax staff
- 2+ years of experience representing clients before tax authorities
- Valid CPA license required

- Competitive Compensation: $140,000 - $150,000 plus bonus
