General Purpose of the Job Accounting Manager

Manage day to day accounting activities, as well as provide supervision and guidance to Accounting staff. Complete the closing of each financial period in an accurate and timely fashion. Ensure that all financial reports are completed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Maintain fixed asset ledgers and construction in progress accounts. Prepare financial statements, to include balance sheet and profit and loss statements. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the associate for this job. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accounting Manager

  • Manage all day to day accounting activities.
  • Apply information to proper accounts in order to create valid financial statements
  • Assist with analyzing any budget to actual gaps.
  • Prepare month end journal entries.
  • Verify all month end tasks have been completed.
  • Assist with semi-annual physical inventory.
  • Provide training and guidance to associates as needed.
  • Present financial reports to auditors for authentication.
  • Update fixed asset ledgers for additions and disposals.
  • Calculate monthly depreciation.
  • Issue application forms when requested.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheet and profit and loss statements.
  • Confirm general ledger balances.
  • Complete all Head Office reports.
  • Complete Personal Property Tax Return.



  • Complete and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns.
  • Conduct annual review of all controlled documents, including the departmental documents to ensure the use and accuracy. 
  • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each associate at UPAL.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities Accounting Manager

This position manages all associates of the department and is responsible for the interview, hiring and performance management of the employees within that department.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (BS) from four-year College or university and two to four year’s related experience.

Language Skills

Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports, legal documents, general business periodicals, and government regulations. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Peachtree. Must be capable of adapting to new computer systems as needed.

Other Skills and Abilities

  1. Must be able to work overtime on short notice.
  2. Must be knowledgeable of GAAP standards for financial reporting purposes.
  3. Must be knowledgeable of Federal and State tax regulations.
  4. Must hold and maintain current driver's license.
  5. Must be able to travel, if needed.

 Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear at moderate noise levels. The associate is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers, to handle, feel and reach with hands and arms. There are minimal lifting requirements of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision. 

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas which certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as ear, eye, head and foot. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
