Human Resources Director


Position Overview

Our client, a growing human services agency is seeking an experienced and hands-on Human Resources Director to lead all aspects of the organization's human resources function. This individual will serve as a strategic partner to leadership while ensuring a high-performing, accountable, and compliant workforce that supports our mission and growth.

The HR Director will oversee employee relations, compliance, performance management, recruiting, onboarding, training, and staff development while managing and mentoring the HR team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Human Resources department, providing guidance, mentorship, and accountability to HR staff.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, labor regulations, and nonprofit best practices.
  • Oversee employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Establish and maintain performance management processes, including evaluations, coaching, corrective action plans, and employee development initiatives.
  • Partner with department leaders to hold managers accountable for team performance, attendance, productivity, and professional conduct.
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts across the organization.
  • Maintain and update employee policies, handbooks, and HR procedures.
  • Manage compensation, benefits administration, leave programs, and employee records.
  • Develop training programs focused on leadership development, compliance, workplace culture, and employee growth.
  • Monitor workforce metrics, turnover trends, and staffing needs, providing recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Foster a positive, mission-driven culture that promotes teamwork, accountability, and professional excellence.
  • Ensure all personnel files, HR systems, and documentation are maintained accurately and confidentially.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience.
  • Prior experience managing and developing HR teams.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, and HR best practices.
  • Experience handling employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit, education, youth services, or community-based organizations is a plus.
