Payroll Specialist
Location: Cedarhurst, NY (On-site)
Comp: $65,000–$80,000 DOE + benefits (PTO, health)
About the Role
Join a growing tax & accounting firm supporting small–mid-sized businesses nationwide. You’ll own accurate, compliant payroll processing and partner with finance to keep operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- End-to-end, multi-state payroll processing (hourly/exempt), pay cycles, off-cycles, and terminations
- Validate timecards, earnings, PTO, deductions, and benefits; process garnishments and reimbursements
- Prepare/file payroll taxes (federal/state/local), quarterly/annual filings, W-2/W-3, 1099 where applicable
- Maintain employee payroll records; onboard new hires and update changes (rate, status, benefits)
- Reconcile payroll to GL; generate reports for finance and leadership
- Respond to employee/vendor inquiries; support audits and compliance initiatives (FLSA, state regs)
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on payroll experience (multi-state preferred)

Must have prior working experience using QuickBooks (QuickBooks Payroll a plus)
- Familiarity with ADP/Paychex or similar payroll systems
- Solid Excel skills; high accuracy, confidentiality, and deadline discipline
- Clear communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
