Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

AI-Native Healthcare Platform | Remote / Flexible | Full-Time

150k-200k +

Our Client is building an AI-native healthcare software platform. The environment is HIPAA-regulated and handles PHI at scale. They are seeking a visionary Chief Technology Officer to own the technical strategy and lead a team of AI software engineers building and shipping production features across this platform. The CTO will be the technical co-pilot of the company, translating business goals into reliable, scalable software across our native EMR, CRM, clinical documentation pipelines, billing integrations, and ML-powered workflow automation.

What You'll Own:

Technical Strategy & Architecture:

• Define and drive the overall architecture of our AI orchestration layer, integrating frontier

model providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) behind a unified abstraction.

• Set technical standards, establish engineering best practices, and ensure the system is

built for long-term scale and maintainability.

• Lead architectural decisions for clinical data modeling, FHIR/HL7 integration boundaries,

and data pipeline design.

• Evaluate and own the cloud infrastructure strategy (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP

considered).

Team Leadership:

• Recruit, manage, and grow a team of AI/ML engineers, full-stack engineers, and data

engineers.

• Translate complex product and business requirements into clear engineering goals,

milestones, and delivery plans.

• Foster a culture of ownership, quality, and continuous improvement; where engineers

ship reliably with high autonomy.

• Conduct code reviews, technical mentorship, and hands-on collaboration when needed.

Product & Platform Delivery:

• Oversee the build-out of production features including LLM- and ML-powered workflows,

clinical documentation, audio transcription pipelines, and task automation.

• Drive integrations with external clinical, billing, payroll, and clearinghouse systems.

• Own parallel-run and shadow-mode validation against legacy systems being replaced.

• Ensure all services are deployed, monitored, optimized, and maintained to production

standards.

Compliance & Security:

• Ensure all systems are built to HIPAA standards with PHI handled responsibly;

auditability, access control, and security from day one.

• Partner with legal and compliance stakeholders to maintain and evolve the security

posture of the platform.

What We are looking For:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior technical

leadership or CTO-equivalent role.

• Deep, hands-on experience building and integrating LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, or

similar) into production systems; not just prototypes.

• Strong Python engineering background; working proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for

full-stack or frontend contexts.

• Proven track record building and managing high-performing engineering teams.

• Experience building data pipelines and complex third-party API integrations.

• Cloud infrastructure experience (Azure strongly preferred; AWS or GCP acceptable).

• Demonstrated experience shipping software in regulated environments.

Strongly Preferred:

• HIPAA/PHI compliance experience in a production healthcare context.

• Healthcare interoperability exposure: FHIR and/or HL7 integration patterns.

• Experience in behavioral health, clinical systems, EMR/EHR platforms, or adjacent

healthcare verticals.

• Familiarity with audio transcription pipelines, clinical NLP, or similar applied ML

workflows.

Who You Are:

• A builder at heart : not just a manager, you can roll up your sleeves and contribute

directly when it matters.

• Decisive under uncertainty; you can make sound architecture decisions with incomplete

information and course-correct quickly.

• Mission-driven; you care about the impact of healthcare technology and the

responsibility that comes with handling sensitive patient data.

• Operationally excellent; you ship reliably, care about production quality, and hold the

team to a high bar.

Why Join The team:

• Meaningful domain: healthcare is underserved by technology; your work will directly

affect patient outcomes.

• True ownership: this is a foundational leadership role with significant influence over

product, culture, and company direction.

• Competitive compensation including equity commensurate with the scope and seniority

of the role.

• Remote-first, flexible work environment.
