Business Development Manager – Industrial Distribution

Location: Field-based – Southern Idaho (Pocatello to Boise)


About the Opportunity

An established industrial distribution company is seeking a Business Development Manager to develop and grow a new territory spanning Southern Idaho, from Pocatello to Boise. This role is ideal for a driven sales professional with a background in consultative B2B sales who enjoys building new business relationships and has familiarity with industrial products.


This position offers extensive travel within the territory and provides strong earning potential through a base salary plus commission/bonus plan.


Position Overview

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for generating new business opportunities, establishing long-term customer relationships, and driving profitable growth through increased market share and margins. Success in this role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to provide value-added solutions that improve efficiency and reduce costs for customers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a defined territory by establishing new accounts and expanding business with current customers.
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of prospects through networking, referrals, research, and outreach, supported by CRM tools.
  • Present value-added products and services while maintaining awareness of customer processes, equipment, and competitive products.
  • Increase territory sales volume and gross margins through consultative selling.
  • Conduct customer visits to develop strong relationships, identify applications, and introduce new products.
  • Partner with supplier representatives for joint sales calls and territory development.
  • Monitor market conditions, opportunities, and competitive activity to adjust strategies.
  • Recommend and implement actions to maximize sales and expand market share.
  • Provide documented cost savings and measurable value to customers.
  • Record all account activity, contacts, and sales efforts in CRM software.
  • Collaborate with customer support teams to ensure excellent service and execution.


Qualifications

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Strong relationship-building skills with customers at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to sell value rather than compete solely on price.
  • Knowledge of the Southern Idaho market is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Comfortable learning new systems and processes quickly.
  • Proficient with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and mobile technology.
  • Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Flexibility for irregular schedules and extensive travel within the territory.


Experience

  • 3–5 years of proven B2B sales experience in new business development, account management, and territory growth.
  • Industrial tool sales experience or mechanical/technical aptitude is highly preferred.


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
