Metalworking Specialist – Eastern PA / Northeast Maryland
Location: Field-based – covering South Central Pennsylvania and Northeast Maryland (I-95 corridor from Baltimore to Wilmington, I-83 from Baltimore to York, and Lancaster, PA)

An established industrial distributor is seeking a Metalworking Specialist to join its team and support business growth in the Northeast region. This individual will serve as a trusted technical resource for manufacturing customers, helping them optimize tooling applications and solve complex machining challenges. While prior sales experience is valuable, technical expertise and hands-on machining knowledge are the top priorities.
Position Overview
This role requires a professional who thrives in customer-facing environments, enjoys problem-solving, and has strong technical expertise in machining and tooling. The Metalworking Specialist will work closely with customers, supplier partners, and the commercial team to deliver value-added solutions and build lasting relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical advisor for customers in machine shops, fabrication shops, mills, forges, and foundries.
- Assess customer needs and recommend tooling solutions to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal teams and supplier partners to support business development efforts.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of prospects through networking, referrals, and outreach.
- Provide tooling alternatives and application advice with a focus on cost savings and performance.
- Capture RFQs and orders from new and existing accounts.
- Document activities, pipeline updates, and opportunities in CRM software.
- Submit cost savings reports and project documentation as required.
- Stay current with product training, technical knowledge, and application trends.
- Strategically plan and manage the territory for long-term growth.
- Participate in training sessions, sales meetings, and industry events (overnight travel required).
Qualifications
Required:
- In-depth knowledge of metalworking products (cutting tools, oils, coolants, lubricants).
- Hands-on CNC machining experience.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to interpret tooling and machining requirements.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage a field-based schedule.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clean driving record.
- Willingness to travel overnight as needed.
Preferred:
- Outside sales experience in industrial or MRO distribution.
- Experience working directly with manufacturing customers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certifications or machining coursework are a plus.
