National Application Engineer – Composites Specialist


U.S. – Remote | Nationwide Travel

SCN is partnering with a leading cutting tool manufacturer seeking a National Application Engineer – Composite Specialist to support customers machining advanced composite materials across North America.

This individual will serve as the company’s subject matter expert for composite machining applications, working directly with aerospace and advanced manufacturing customers to optimize processes and implement high-performance tooling solutions.


The Opportunity

This is a highly visible, national-level technical role supporting strategic OEMs, Tier suppliers, and distribution partners focused on composite manufacturing. The position plays a critical role in solving complex machining challenges, supporting new program launches, and driving growth within high-value composite applications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and application support for machining composite materials including CFRP, GFRP, honeycomb, and stack materials (Composite/Titanium/Aluminum)
  • Support customers with tooling selection, cutting parameters, and process optimization
  • Troubleshoot issues such as delamination, fiber pullout, edge quality, and tool wear
  • Conduct on-site trials, validation testing, and application development activities
  • Partner with Regional Sales Managers and distributors on strategic aerospace and advanced manufacturing opportunities
  • Deliver technical training to customers, distributors, and internal sales teams
  • Serve as the technical liaison between customers and product engineering teams


Ideal Background

  • 7+ years of application engineering or manufacturing experience
  • Strong experience machining composite materials
  • Background in cutting tools, aerospace manufacturing, or advanced materials environments
  • Hands-on CNC machining or process engineering experience
  • Customer-facing technical support experience
  • Ability to travel nationally (~50–70%)


Preferred Experience

  • Aerospace OEM or Tier 1 supplier exposure
  • Experience with diamond, PCD, or specialized composite tooling
  • Composite drilling, routing, trimming, or orbital machining processes
  • Cutting tool OEM or technical distributor background
