Applications Engineer Special Builds – Automotive & Marine – Wallingford, South Oxfordshire

An Applications Engineer Special Builds job is available in Wallingford with an established engineering business specialising in customised production vehicles and technically complex customer-specific projects.

We are looking for an experienced Applications Engineer who possesses strong mechanical engineering skills and proficiency in 3D CAD. Experience in automotive, marine, or other specialised engineering environments is ideal. In this role, you will work within a dynamic Design Office and manage customised vehicle projects from the initial customer brief to final delivery. You will collaborate closely with customers, as well as with Commercial, Production, and suppliers, providing hands-on technical support and developing engineering solutions to meet specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Project manage customer-specific modifications, integration studies and customised production vehicle projects from brief through to delivery.
• Develop and manage technical assembly and manufacturing drawings, BOMs and project budgets using advanced 3D CAD.
• Provide technical support to Production and Sales, liaise with component suppliers and work with regulatory bodies on design certification.
• Support project builds, testing, product improvements and on-water testing, providing hands-on engineering problem solving throughout the development process.

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience as an Applications Engineer or similar engineering role, ideally supported by a degree-level engineering qualification.
• Advanced 3D CAD experience, preferably NX, with strong knowledge of component and assembly modelling and production of technical drawings.
• Strong mechanical engineering knowledge with experience of fabricated steel, aluminium and plastic components and solving complex engineering challenges.
• Experience with mechanical systems; knowledge of GRP/CFRP, fluid circuits, electrical systems or the marine industry would be advantageous.
